Whole Home Renovation – Dustin’s Iowa House, Before & After

Dustin bought his house 3 years ago and it needed a complete whole home renovation, top to bottom! The house was pretty much original 1983 everything so it was primed to be torn apart. When we first started talking, I was obviously impressed that he had the initiative to do that on his own, and also the fact he could execute his vision. Talk about a renaissance man! We spent the last couple months finishing up the home renovation and getting the house on the market. Scroll to see the before and afters! I linked as much as I could and included paint/floor information at the bottom. Reach out if I missed anything!

Before

The kitchen… just woah. And how about that carpeted dining room??
It was just a LOT. I am even more impressed with Dustin and him being able to have the vision to make it magical! Wait until you see the transformation below…
I can see if I can find a link to that light?
This awkward little bar that looked like it should be a closet he tore out, along with that header separating the entryway.
First floor master- awesome layout, very basic.
Right across from the master was this huge office/bedroom (previous owners used as a TV room).
Powder bath which Dustin turned into an absolute gem (can’t see the awkward linen closet to the left that was removed)!
Elliott’s bedroom, with ORIGINAL 37 year old carpet.
Spare bedroom
Wait until you see a simple transformation of this cute little nook upstairs, right above the front door!

After

He didn’t change much on the outside other than a little landscaping and lots of tree trimming, but isn’t it such a cute house?
Now THIS is what I am talking about!
He designed it himself too. So much storage and so functional!

Range

Refrigerator (the nicest fridge I have ever seen! I will miss it.)

Vent

Microwave

Sink

Faucet

Semi flush mount light

Soap

Dustin also scraped all the popcorn off the ceilings which made it look so much better.

Chandelier

Barstools

Dining table

Dining chairs

The living room sans awkward bar closet and header!!
Aren’t the floors gorgeous?
Dustin white washed the fireplace and installed a custom mantle

Floor lamp

Area rug

He did such a nice job on the office. The fan is so cool!

Fan (on super sale for $82!)

Curtains (great quality and room darkening, on sale for $33 for the pair!)

Curtain rod

Sheet set

Fan (20% off!)

Elliott’s room- such a cute little girls room and not bad decorating for a bachelor!

Fan

Curtain rod

Unicorn head

This was that little nook I mentioned! It is amazing what a little paint can do. It is the sweetest homework area.
Guest room. What a difference paint makes! Have I said that before?
The powder! Totally unrecognizable from what it used to be. Absolutely gorgeous!

Quite a home renovation, right? And doesn’t he have amazing taste?! And if it wasn’t clear, Dustin did 95% of the work himself. Swoon, right?! Which is your favorite room transformation?

So I see a Nicole and Dustin show on HGTV in the future. You are both so talented. Bring on the fixers! You both did amazing jobs on your homes. A true match for sure. Can’t wait to see your next home together.
